Tuner?

Are any of you using a pre-programmed tune? I have a jlt cai that I have not installed yet. I had a tune scheduled at hpp to have a custom dyno tune but some things came up and I had to cancel. I seem to not have the time to go get it tuned. Are any of you running bama...etc tunes. Which one do you recommend?

downtime! 06-29-2012 08:55 PM

I had a canned tune from VMP when I first got the car. Justin does great work and it was only $50. I went 12.10@115 on that tune, with muffler deletes and DR's on the back.

PLASMAN 06-29-2012 08:55 PM

I'm running a VMP tune and love it. I also had a BBR tune briefly that was mushy and had dead spots in it. Manny at HPP will be doing some tunes on my car next month.

Midnight11 06-29-2012 08:56 PM

I will be going with LUND tuning

StormTrooper 06-30-2012 08:51 AM

I will be doing Lund as well.

04sleeper 06-30-2012 10:06 AM

I tuned my own car.

Doug1227 06-30-2012 11:44 AM

I started with a BAMA tune since I bought my tuner from them. I used them for a while then eventually had TrueStreet in McKinney tune it. Frankly, it didn't make much power difference, but the driveability/auto shifts, etc. were better with TS.

Yes it is.

jarheadtex 07-03-2012 06:05 PM

I think Ill go with the BAMA tune for now. I dont plan on doing any more power upgrades for a while. Ill get the suspension dialed in and then wheels before any more go fast parts.

I would say that HPP is def the best in the DFW area, if not all of Texas. Manny will treat you right and get it right. They are about $400 for a "lifetime" tune, which means that if you add more later he will only charge you for dyno time, not the tune itself. pretty good deal IMO. But a can tune should be fine for just a CAI. GL

Eaglei532 07-06-2012 10:12 AM

I'd hit up Manny @HPP, always done great with my cars

jarheadtex 07-07-2012 12:04 AM

I had a tune scheduled with HPP..and thats what I would prefer to do...but my mod budget took a hit a week before my tune and now I dont have the time or the money to drop on the tune. Now, I have a CAI sitting in the garage collecting dust. I know HPP is spot on..they tuned my neighbor's Harley truck.

Eaglei532 07-07-2012 07:44 AM

Yeah it is a little pricey. Maybe collect a few more performance mods first, then get them all tuned at the same time

jarheadtex 07-07-2012 12:30 PM

Yeah...i could do that....but then I have to fine a good east coast tuner. I have orders to Camp Lejeune NC in Nov.

Midnight11 07-07-2012 02:25 PM

what cai? :D

jarheadtex 07-07-2012 02:27 PM

JLT Carbon fiber

Midnight11 07-07-2012 02:38 PM

oh nice!

jarheadtex 07-07-2012 07:01 PM

I just had a great idea...You can buy my CAI...it will no longer be collecting dust and I can get my tune:D

Midnight11 07-07-2012 07:03 PM

how much?

jarheadtex 07-07-2012 07:07 PM

well..I bought it for 429. Its brand new...but does have dust on it...lol so I could probably go 400.

Midnight11 07-07-2012 07:26 PM

yea ill pass i too want a tune and h pipe first

jarheadtex 07-07-2012 08:17 PM

Yeah...if I did it again I would have held off on the CAI...not realizing the tune was what made the most difference. I drove home from the dealership and ordered the exhaust and CAI.

Have you taken yours to the track yet?

jarheadtex 07-07-2012 09:03 PM

^^^^^^^this:D

Emwun Garand 07-07-2012 11:13 PM

He's my tuner of choice for my Cobra. Has the software to tune Cobra and now the 5.0
Knows his shit, especially E85 tuning

Eaglei532 07-08-2012 02:05 AM

Yes!!!! Going to Actionville, I love that place. I spent my first 3 years at Lejeune

I doubt he has any graphs yet. He really doesn't care about the numbers now since it's a stock car, but rather cares more about making the tune spot on.

He's picky about who he tunes for because he's got a VERY limited schedule due to his job being on the road most of the time.

Midnight11 07-08-2012 10:11 AM

I wasn't really interested in numbers per say just the curve and how everything looked. I understand being busy just thought it would be cool for a local person to tune rather than an out of state person/company

He might do it, you never know. You going to switch over to E85 then? That's what he tunes for.

Midnight11 07-08-2012 11:01 AM

Ah then no lol didn't know that

Emwun Garand 07-08-2012 01:28 PM

He tuned my car for 93 and E85. Smoothest MAF curve evar!

The newer 5.0's are actually much easier to tune than the older cars due to having factory widebands built in. Especially with just minor bolt on's and such. I only have the software for the new auto's. I would just go with someone like VMP. They only charge like $59 for the tune if you have an XCal 3 handheld.

My fuel of choice is E85 for sure, but I can tune for anything really. I could just as easily tune for race gas, or even propane or CNG if I want. There's really no difference once you understand the principles.

LOL. Compared to his car it is. Both cars need more boost IMO. :D
