Boss H-Pipe

Just throwing a feeler out there.

I currently have a Boss H-Pipe and Side Pipes on my 13 GT-Premium with stock exhaust.

I love the 302 set up and have the restrictor plates removed from the side pipes and it just isn't loud enough for me. (No - I don't plan on removing the cats) Plus I don't like the big gap around the small stock tips. So after reading a ton of reviews and watching countless clips I pulled the trigger on the Pype Bombs from Late Model which were on sale.

I'm going to install the AB tomorrow and drive it to work a couple of times and if I feel like it is too loud I'm considering putting the stock mid pipe back on and selling the 302 set up. If anyone if interested in it I will post it up here, if not - Craigslist or Ebay.

Before you ditch the sidepipes, look into a set of custom made restrictor plates. Bossmustangsonline.com has plates with a variety of different holes drilled for varying volume. This will help keep some volume down while keeping the sound.

I would be interested. If the price is right! Lol ;) what are you thinking price wise and I'll let you know of I'm in or out.

DirtyD 07-16-2014 12:10 AM

The pipes are so worth it. I started my car up tonight just so I could hear them again. :)

MontanaBentley 07-16-2014 10:52 AM

I might be interested in the Boss H-Pipe, let me know what you are thinking on Price

I installed the Pype Bombs this morning. Ran up and down the highway. They aren't as bad as I thought they might be. I think my old Fox was louder. They are a little deeper than stock at idle. WOT is "HOLY SHEET". But drone at 2K RPM

Side pipes not as loud but I still hear the gurgle when down shifting; which I love. Absolutely ZERO rasp. Just a noticeable drone - Adjusted radio volume to compensate for drone. I don't mind it but I know my wife might say something when she is riding with me. I'll make it up to her by buying some get-dirty mods for her Jeep.

I think that ditching the side pipes might actually make the back ones louder. I'll take the blanks that came with the Boss H-Pipe to work and drill them out to 5/8" and try them, maybe 3/4". I'll keep it on for now just because it's a pain n the ass to replace.

I love the way they look. They fill in the gap nicely and stick out a little more. If I get to where I feel like they are too loud I'll take my stock mufflers to work with me, cut the tips off and weld the Pype Bomb tips onto the stock mufflers.

I have them and I love em. I also use the radio adjustment feature at 2k! LOL!

So are you keeping the boss h pipe now? I am confused.. lol

We need to compare ours. :)

No cats versus cats

NAVAG 07-17-2014 12:23 AM

I'll keep the Boss H-Pipe for now but I need to do some sound proofing work to get these Pype Bombs under control. They have a very deep bass and at seem to vibrate the hell out of the trunk at certain RPMs. Right now the drone at 2K is annoyingly loud on the inside. Thinking of going with the peel and seal option from Lowes instead of dropping my kids college fund on Dynamat. Outside the car sounds perfect. Inside is not too bad with the exception of 2K RPM. 70-75 on the highway and I can't hear myself think. 65 and under and 80+ is pretty quiet.

NAVAG 07-17-2014 03:54 PM

Dropped a hundred dollars on some dynamat and only had enough to do the spare tire area. Reduced the drone a little. Need to coat the entire trunk area.

Come on by.

Boss949 07-18-2014 07:08 AM

I had same problem with Roush A/B. Drone @2100 was awful. Needed more restrictive mufflers.
1. GT500 "13" Quad pipes (regular dual will work). Eliminated all the drone. Was running Cat Delete; FRPP X . I loved the Boss side w/H pipe. However, opted for Torque Arm Kit and had to convert to X. Handling over sound.
2. Recently installed Kooks LT with O/R X (no cats/ OBD2 in tune) Deleted the resonators and Kinney Muffler installed straight pipes.
3. The sound is finally where I wanted it from the beginning. Cruising and I can talk on phone, no drone, etc. Fun begins on acceleration.

Hope this helps.

NAVAG 07-18-2014 09:36 AM

I love the Boss Side Pipes. Just wanted something louder in the back. The Pypes sound awesome and they look great. On the outside they have that low rumble that I remember from the classic muscle cars. They aren't even that loud when driving through town but when in top gear on the highway the drone is sickening. I have some more sound proofing materials coming in from amazon which I doubt will do much for the drone but I've been wanting to try and eliminate the road noise anyway so I'll go ahead and do that first. Next weekend I'm going to do one of three things.

1. Remove Pype Bombs and offer to sell/trade
2. Put it all back to stock and sell the pypes and Boss setup.
3. Do nothing and just stay out of the drone range.

When I bought the Boss H, I had narrowed my decision down to it and the GT 500 quads. The price wasn't that different. Right now I'm thinking of selling everything and buying the quads.

NAVAG 07-18-2014 09:43 AM

I pulled the side pipes off yesterday and bolted the blanks on just for shits and giggles and there wasn't any change in the drone. Needed to thoroughly clean the side pipes anyway. I'm thinking that the drone is not so much the sound of the exhaust but from the sound waves vibrating through the thin, uninsulated trunk skin.

Some people like it but since I daily drive, its not for me.

Boss949 07-18-2014 09:51 AM

I completely changed my set up by Kooks/ X/ GT500's and Resonator delete. No drone. The Boss side's were one of my favorite parts that came on the car. BUT, performance wins out!
Many times, when you want to get that perfect sound for you and your car, it takes some experimenting.

Think about Headers; biggest bang for the buck. I wish I would have installed them earlier. The 5.0 will really breathe and open up. If you don't want Cat Deletes; just get an X with Cats.

The Pypes are well known for drone.

I would look into another axle back. Borla and Magnaflow are the ones I would recommend.

I love my GT500s though.

DirtyD 07-18-2014 09:59 AM

Here is a decent video of my current setup (watch in HD)

Stock manifolds -> Jegs 3" cat deletes -> MRT 3" Boss H-pipe -> Stock axle pipes with Dynomax race bullets -> GT500 single tips

Boss949 07-18-2014 10:09 AM

Dirty D;

That sounds awesome. Had I stayed with H, I would have got the MRT. You can tell the diff between X and H. I prefer the deeper tone of H; but X was better for my set up for other reasons..

Listening to your car at TMS a few weeks back, yours does sounds excellent. I think with an X pipe, LTs help with the noise difference.

Boss949 07-18-2014 10:30 AM

Funny you should mention TMS.

I was having difficulty driving; staging area and then car moving??? My left foot was slipping and letting clutch out!!!! I was blaming Scot (starter; LOL) couldn't fasten my chin strap with left hand, etc….

Went for Neurological test on 6/23; put me in MRI; found a glib blastoma brain tumor!!! took most of out on 6/25. I"m doing great; but there's road to travel. I can't drive for another month or so. Might have one of sons in law drive my car next Friday.

All of the neuro symptoms are gone! Operation on Wed 6/25 then home on Monday 6/30. Most folks, unfortunately have to go to rehab, etc. The Lord is really taking care of me and I haven't felt this good in a while. Another son in law took me and the Boss out a few days ago and had blast playing with a new Stingray!

Little off subject; but why not? I'm planning on living. Getting ready to order Forgestar CF 5's next week!!!

NAVAG 07-18-2014 10:34 AM

GT500's are probably the way to go. Don't want to get rid of my side pipes. I'll pull the pype bombs off next weekend and post them in the for sale section. Maybe I could get an even swap for some GT500s.

Damn the Pype Bombs look good though....

DirtyD 07-18-2014 01:42 PM

Seriously? Wow man, that definitely was someone looking out for you. Glad you are doing better!

Thanks. Yes, the last Friday I raced (6/20) on practice runs; I hit my Rev limiter twice (never do that); hit a cone on the left side at end of the run!!!

That's when I called my Dr. on Saturday morning. MRI, Monday; most of Tumor taken out Wed (6/25). All symptoms gone; no damage from op. I just can't drive for while and we have a road to go to beat this thing. But, God is in control; I've never felt better!

Thanks for asking

ps Navag, sorry for the thread jack

NAVAG 07-19-2014 09:58 AM

Glad you're doing well. I understand. Sometimes going to the doctor and saying "I'm not feeling too good" turns into a trip to the operating room and a couple of months off of work...happened to my wife back in December. We weren't preparred for that sort of thing because we still had the same attitude toward our health thst we had in our 20's and 30's. Now it seems we had to turn a 180 , eat right, exercise a little, and start saving money in case something like that happens again...which is one of the reasons I've been going cheap with the car parts.

Boss949 07-19-2014 10:51 PM

Navag, Appreciate that.

MontanaBentley 07-21-2014 09:25 AM

If you decide to sell the H-pipe i'd love to buy it. PM me if you decide to sell.

NAVAG 07-24-2014 05:27 PM

After about 500 miles of driving most of the drone is out of the pype bombs. I lined the trunk with three cans of boom mat and lined the spare tire area with dyno mat and all the rattling is gone. I have the sound I want on the outside. The axle backs kind of drown out the side pipes but when down shifting you can still hear the gurgle pretty good. Still a little drone at 75 MPH but it isn't so loud that I want to shoot myself anymore. Think I'll hang onto this set up for a little while.

With the deep bass coming from the rear and the rumble coming from the side it definitely grabs a lot more attention. When pulling into a parklin lot or cruising down residential streets I see a lot of people checking out my car. I had a couple of people come check it out when I was getting gas and two people on I30 rev up next to me like they want to race.

NAVAG 08-10-2014 03:25 PM

Going with a different set up.

Boss H-Pipe and Pype Bomb A/B are posted in the for sale section
$450 for H-Pipe and $250 for the Pype Bombs.
