What advice do you guys have for me! Please lend your advice. I'm thinking about trading in my '12 GT for a '13 or '14. I have never traded in a car I still owed on.

Pepperinyoureye 04-09-2013 11:54 PM

Probably not going to be worth it honestly. The value of '11-'12 MY of our cars is crap. Skip at Grapevine (Mustang sales god) offered 23-24k for my Roush that had a sticker of 46k less than a year ago. Most offers hang in the 19-20k range. He said that offer was even pushing it. Good luck though I've had 3 offers so far and I would honestly rather just keep mine instead now.

pohnjarker 04-10-2013 01:36 AM

i'd keep it unless you want to come out of pocket...a lot.
your '12 looks much better than the '13-'14 anyways.
i can see the appeal of having a new car, but ive been there and traded in upside down before...paid close to 26k for a 19k Civic...never again.

Whoa....hey now...'12's look much better than '13's?? I've NEVER heard anyone say that! Lol I guess everyone is entitled to their opinion. I love my '13, but if I was you, I would not trade in man. It's not worth the hit you'll take! Negative equity sucks! Believe me, I paid over $50k for an Expedition because of it. High payments for a new car are completely overrated. I considered trading in for a '13 Shelby, but you can sink that money into your car and make it a lot faster!

i'll clarify. IMO, the front of the 11-12 looks better. the 13-14 has better tail lights. since i see most people in my rear view mirror as im walking them, im tired of looking at the 13-14 front end :shooter:

Gotcha. I'd say that's because '13's and '14's are so new. Most people don't have highly modded '13's and '14's yet. Give it a year...hell give it to the end of the summer when Lucille screams by you with an F1:challenge:

Dark Pony 04-10-2013 07:29 AM

But to your point about the '12's having a better looking front end, I think the lower fascia on the '12's are better looking. Additionally, the can be modified a lot easier and cheaper too.

I sat on a custom one at the auto show this year. And I now it's the same inside but feeling it while your in the driver seat really looks better. I like the new body style. Plus I wouldn't mind getting another one with no miles!

In an ideal situation I personally would sell your car outright, get as much $ for it as you can. Provided you have alternate means of transportation after the sale. I would then get pre-approved for financing and have a check in hand. Call every stealership in town and ask for the sales manager. Tell them I want your best "out the door price" on this make/model/color/options. Let them know that you're shopping them against every other Ford dealer withing 50 miles. The dealership with the lowest price on what you want earns your business and get's your check by EOB today. Essentially you've taken most of the leverage away from the dealership and have pitted them against each other. Trust me, one of them will make you a great offer!

Now knowing how hard the new car bug can bite and the desire to get it now will ultimately cost you a lot more $$$ and that's what the dealership is counting on and ultimately that's the decision you'll have to weigh. Just my .02 thanks!

STROKD 04-10-2013 11:38 AM

only way Id trade that nice car of yours in for a new one would be if it was a 4.slow... like a 9 or 10. since it isnt , just keep it... unless you find a 13 Boss, then it might be worth the upgrade.

Thanks bro I now I got that new car fever but I'm happy with my '12. I wouldn't mind getting into a new one with zero miles. Before I get in to housing and will loose my chance forever. Or until I retire! Which will be useless then lol

Car sounded badass. What about the other white '13 that had some gold wheels? That was a beast!

You're willing to lose a couple years of payments just to get into basically the exact same car? Getting a new car never makes good financial sense. But if there was a compelling reason for the jump, like getting rid of a lemon, or reducting a car payment, or getting into a Boss or Shelby, then I could maybe understand the appeal.

You have to decide if it's worth the ~$10-20k hit you're going to take after you factor in the depreciation of the '12, sales tax on the difference, loan interest, and depreciation of the 2014 over the loan.

Hey, I'm a dummy too, I also bought a new car a couple of years ago!

Yup I'm willing to loose a few years and gain a few grand for completely NEW car. YOLO!!! Plus I ain't got no kids and no major loan except this one. My nigga I'm straight. Well see what happens tomorrow! They got ALOT of rebates for '13's! Since they are making room for '14's.....

Well today I will get the news on my decision for Lady Blue. #fingerscrossed #wishmeluck

kn7671 04-12-2013 06:09 AM

How'd it go, you rolling in a new 2013/14 Mustang now?

Luke 04-12-2013 06:29 AM

Good luck, but if it doesn't work out the way you want I'd consider it a blessing. I don't think a few body panels are worth that hit in cost. For what you're about to spend/lose you could be getting a blower. I went from an 03 Cobra to the 13 and although the 13 is a better car, my Cobra would have been a beast by now and still paid off.

Rydawg1 04-12-2013 11:10 PM

So what's the word, did you stay put or trade in?

I will post some tomorrow so you guys can comment. It was pretty late after I got back home. Contract not finalized yet, since my credit union was closed after I brought the dealer down to an agreement I was happy with! I was only $1900 upside down. Not bad at all I say!

pohnjarker 04-13-2013 03:02 AM

if i hadnt modded mine up, i'd consider trading in for a new 14 as well. too much money invested and the wife would be PISSED

1900 isnt bad at all

1900 is not bad at all. I also got 6500 off sticker price! The '14's were cheaper if you leased. But I don't pay notes on leases. Over all the car will come out exactly for what my '12 did. Plus the 1900 on top. So I'm satisfied!
