Steering Wheel Buttons Wearing Down

My steering wheel buttons are starting to show wear, primarily with the volume control. I am starting to see glow through the buttons in areas that is not supposed to show. Any suggestions on what to do? I wonder if the buttons can simply pop off and I can replace with new ones.

GunsUp 09-12-2013 02:36 PM

Yup mine too. Just replace it with a Boss or GT500 when somebody releases a badass coupon for one.

Few guys picked em up for like 199 bucks? I dunno was a couple months back.

DirtyD 09-12-2013 03:41 PM

That means you use them too much. Lol

No notices of mine wearing yet...just my tires. Haha

Trade it in on a 2013. Problem solved!

Oh really? Nice! What dealer did it? Seems I am having issues with Grapevine Ford wanting to do anything under warranty.

Your buttons will wear down too buddy! Besides why would stray away from a 10-12 body style? They are the best looking anyway :)

JDBishopArts 09-12-2013 05:21 PM

Did you talk to Skip at grapevine?

I've had the same issues with Grapevine Ford unfortunately.
Five Star in NRH is who replaced em.

I shouldn't have to talk to a manager to get simple warranty work done...

JDBishopArts 09-12-2013 07:35 PM

I agree but if it aint working I'd go to him.

I was going to say.. Dan go to another dealership as long as you're under the 3yr/36k warranty MUST replace them.

X2. I never use the steering wheel buttons. Don't even notice they are there until at night when the buttons are illuminated.

I have to every time I go. It's bullshit really. Same thing when I bought the car. I told the sales guy why do I even need you when you keep going to your manager? I just go straight to the manager now.

Dan12GT 09-18-2013 09:40 AM

Thanks for the input guy. I'll be taking it in again.

Oxford14Stang 09-19-2013 06:26 PM

Good luck man.

Try Town East Ford in Mesquite, it might be a trip but its worth it, and talk to Jason Ashcroft. Best drive manager in DFW in my opinion. These guys have always been fast and efficient for the issues I had with my 13 GT.

That is actually where I bought my car from. Maybe if I take it there they will give me a second key that I never received when I purchased the car.

tagle302 09-26-2013 04:10 PM

You should try and get it cuz if you lose that one it's gonna cost out the ass to get new keys made/programmed. I'm gonna get a third one for mine just in case. IIRC you have to have two in order to program another without taking it in.

GTOphil 11-09-2013 02:48 PM

Does the car still have the 3/36 even if you're the second owner?

I have a 2011 w/15k and my buttons are wearing too.

Car was bought by first owner in 11/2011. So 3/36 should be good till 11/2014 right?

Yes it applies to the VIN. So you could be the 10th owner and it will still all work the same. I've still yet to take mine in but probably will do so soon.

fordplay 11-14-2013 08:46 AM

Yeah it took my buttons 2 years and 10 months but they wore thru, grapevine took care of mine no problem,

GTOphil 01-26-2014 10:49 AM

I just took mine to Texas Motors Ford and they were replaced under the 3/36...can't beat free!
