Transmission fluid

More than likely i'll go with Royal Purple when I change it out. I've heard people going with Redline, Amsoil and Mobil 1 but haven't heard anybody mention GM Synchromesh. Why is that? I ask cause that's all you used to hear people going with when talking tranny fluid.

fordplay 11-20-2013 09:13 AM

I never heard GM syncromesh as a good fluid. I like royal purple. But I think I'm the only one. Every one chooses amsoil I'm sure

Dominic Toretto 11-20-2013 09:26 AM

I used Royal Purple once a year for my transmission fluid change on my 2001 C5 and the transmission outlasted the motor with daily driver duties for over five years. Car was auto and had seen plenty of abuse including manual shifting highway pulls and such. Royal Purple worked great for me. I'd use it again. I trust AMSOIL as well. Just my 2 cents.

Really? That's all anyone talked about before Royal Purple became big. Like the late 90's, early 2000's. Or maybe that was just my group that talked about it lol

A302 11-21-2013 12:11 AM

I used GM Syncormesh in my Tremec. It worked great.

fordplay 11-21-2013 08:34 AM

Ok in my defense I wasn't old enough to drive till the very late 90's

That's all I ran in my 3550's and TKO's

Dan12GT 11-21-2013 02:09 PM

Amsoil here. Great stuff!

Bacadiesel 11-29-2013 12:48 PM

Are you guys talking about manual or auto Trans? Cuz I talked to Amsoil and they said they haven't came out with anything yet for the manual Trans on these cars

Auto. I still have a quart leftover from a change I did on the Corvette.

http://www.amsoil.com/shop/by-produc...?code=MTGQT-EA

I've been running this in my car now nearly 20k miles, zero issues, defiantly improved shifting smoothness.

are you manual or auto? I have a manual and i hate the way the car drives for the first 10 minutes.. the oil keeps the gears from engaging smoothly..

Manual. The Amsoil does take some warming up.

Toby 12-04-2013 01:15 AM

I would recommend a synchromesh in the manual trans. It will help the gear changes become smoother.

fordplay 12-05-2013 09:41 AM

Honestly when I replace mine. It's going to be the Ford stuff, she's 3 now and the shifter still shifts like a rifle bolt, it shifts great cold and warm. And it's been auto crossed and drag raced.

SMERF 12-11-2013 12:22 PM

How often do you guys replace transmission fluid ?

In all the cars I have had, I due it once a year with the transmission filter. The A4 ended up outlasting the LS1 in my Corvette with over 140k miles. People always said it would fail before the engine. And I drove the piss out of that car, it had seen numerous road trips and manual shifting.

I am just going to go on the recommended change intervals.

because I'm too lazy to look it up at work, what would that be?

DirtyD 12-11-2013 06:33 PM

I'm going to make the switch to full amsoil fluids in trans, diff, and oil after my next oil change. I'm about to hit the 36k warranty, but since the powertrain is 60k, I'm just going to say screw it.

Not absolutely sure it's usually something higher like 30/40/50k miles. I should be in your owners manual.

Derek I have a hand pump you can borrow when you do that. You will need it for the tranny and diff.
