How many of you plan on....

Keeping your car til its paid off or for good? Do you plan on trading it in?

Dominic Toretto 01-31-2014 01:02 PM

The plan is to keep it. We'll see how that works.

-Alex

zsommer79 01-31-2014 01:02 PM

Always tell myself I am going to keep it until its paid off but I have a sickness, newcaritis.

2003 F250
2004 F150
2006 F150
2009 F150
2010 Raptor
2011 F250
2013 Raptor
2014 Mustang

Actual plan on this one is to pay it off quickly and buy a 2016 F250 so I can keep the Mustang for a weekend car.

rlhay2 01-31-2014 01:06 PM

If you plan on keeping a car DO NOT daily drive it.

Have a beater to get back and forth to work, get car dings, etc..

And pay it of quickly!
Can't believe people are financing cars for 5-7 years.

Agree. I financed mine for 5 years some people cant pay everything right off.

Grandpa 01-31-2014 01:14 PM

LMAO...uhhhh.

GTOphil 01-31-2014 01:16 PM

The "plan" is to save up, throw a s/c on it and keep it. Then buy something else later to keep more miles off.

I don't have many miles and most of my miles are on the wife's truck instead. There were 11,xxx on my car when I got it last February and now there are 15,xxx. Not a bad clip.

It's a car, what's wrong the DD'ing it?

The Joker 01-31-2014 01:21 PM

Thats my plan also GTOphil. Supercharger plus some other upgrades and keep it. I do have a daily driver though and the mustang usually sits in the garage next to the 67.

03MachMe 01-31-2014 01:39 PM

I plan on keeping mine until it's paid off at least. Once it is paid off I might see if I can find a used 13 boss in good shape, or if there is a new Mach 1 I might look at that. I always said I said I would never sell my old Mach but we see how that worked out. Although with a little one now the wife may make sure this is the last Mustang for a long time

Soulowd 01-31-2014 01:59 PM

I plan on keeping mine untill the 2015 is available and i dont have to get on a year wait to get one. Talked with the GM next door (Grapevine Ford) he said the line to get one will be stupid.

Yeah, I know the new stang will be nice and highly sought after. However, it is still a mass production car. I believe there will be a slight wait initially (like maybe a month or so), but after that, there should be plenty of them on the lot. The kicker is that consumers will not be buying the new 2015 stangs for up to $6000 off sticker like in previous years.

Dan12GT 01-31-2014 02:18 PM

Paying it off. After which i'll prob get something like a Focus ST for daily use and look at boosting mine.

I may also consider a used GT500 as well but boosted 5.0 is way cheaper of an option and running e85 without trying to be crazy with it should last me a while.

I have the same sickness.

2011 Honda Civic Si
2011 Subaru WRX
2013 Mustang GT
2012 Honda Civic Si
2014 Mustang GT

In that order. lol.

I plan to keep my 5.0 for another three years and then re-evaluate. The 5.0 is currently the best all-around performance vehicle in my price range.

re-rx7 01-31-2014 02:36 PM

I plan on keeping mine. Looking at mid 90's accords for a dailt right now.

BLK2012GT 01-31-2014 02:45 PM

Paying mine off and then get a used 2014 GT500.

pohnjarker 01-31-2014 03:10 PM

just refinanced it so that i can keep it until i break it, then fix it and enjoy it some more. i had it up for sale for a short time so glad that got fixed.

Crimson600+HP 01-31-2014 03:33 PM

If you have good credit and get a loan for less than 2%, I think it is stupid to buy a car cash with that. You can make a better return on investment by investing the money and having a monthly car payment. That is what I tell everyone when they buy cars.

As for me, this car is staying with me for quite a while now. Way too much $$$ invested for me not to own this car a long time.

BV600 01-31-2014 04:13 PM

This is a horrible question for me, every time I say I'm going to keep a car I don't.
Since 2006
2001 WS6
2001 Z28
2004 GTO
2012 GT
2003 Z06
2014 GT

I think I have an addiction.

blownaltered 01-31-2014 04:45 PM

No payments and I plan on keeping this car forever. I always wanted a vert fox since I watched the movie twins when I was a kid. Now I have it and it isn't going anywhere.

My daily is a Dodge truck. It is far more comfortable than the Mustang for stop and go traffic heading into downtown Dallas 5 days of the week!

And as I had planned (note so sure now, but I still may) on keeping the car I am not running up the mileage doing the boring and menial act of commuting.

It's 7 years old, has no dings and the paint and interior are almost perfect. A few rock chips from not having clear bra but easily fixed.

Of the 18K+ miles, 14K+ of them have been at 700+ rwhp. Thus when it is driven, it gets DRIVEN.

I completely agree. But most don't exercise that level of critical thinking when it comes to a car purchase. Most car purchases are emotional decisions.

DirtyD 01-31-2014 05:27 PM

Bought my car because I've always wanted a Mustang. Also bought the car to actually drive the car. Sure it would be nice to have a daily, especially a truck I could use more often for hauling my bicycle, dog, etc, but I enjoy driving my car everytime I sit in the drivers seat.

People that buy cars new, finance them, and they have them sit in a garage on purpose because they don't want to drive it is dumb to me. The resale on these cars is already horrible. Why not enjoy it?

Mine will be staying with me until it's either wrecked, or falls apart. Years from now it will be racecar status.

Well said!

re-rx7 01-31-2014 05:45 PM

Resale may suck but I like to keep my value at about avg trade.

Guess it all kinda depends on what you want out of the car too. I don't want to always have to tinker with my car either and not looking for insane power. So if I can retire it, throw a TVS with e85 and low boost making around 600 that's perfect for me.

Also I think we all do enjoy the evolving technology in cars too so I wouldn't mind even my horsepower toy to have more gadgets too.

That's my plan.

re-rx7 01-31-2014 06:29 PM

You guys should come to the Denton meet on Tuesdays.

KurvStr8nr 01-31-2014 07:02 PM

Plan on using my GT as DD and occasional AX & DE car - will do suspension mods and minor perf bolt-ons, but nothing too radical. Have two other projects that will keep me busy: My '74 Carrera was retired as my DD for last 2 years by the GT and my '69 Chevelle is in the midst of 2nd restoration.

Bacadiesel 01-31-2014 07:29 PM

Probably pay off and keep it for a very long time. And I will not buy a new car again in a long time. Damn payments suck.

toomnymods 01-31-2014 07:52 PM

I've wanted a mustang ever since the 92' fox bodies when I was a junior in highschool. Of course my dad said no way you'll kill yourself son!! lol Those things don't even have half the power of the new 5.0's man things have come a long way in the last 20+ years. Just this week I asked the wife if I could start driving her car to work for a daily driver. I work 22 miles away from home and she works at home, so Since we already both know we do not intend on keeping her car forever she agreed :P
I just plan to drive the mustang on the weekends as a "playtoy" now.
I'll probably keep my 14' forever as I love the bodystyle and the mods you can do to them are ENDLESS.. don't think i'll ever finish modding mine till it's into the 9's with twins and a forged promod motor. Going to be a long long process but should be fun :)

Hddcrasher 01-31-2014 08:57 PM

I bought my 2012 to DD drive, but I only drive about 5k a year. I expect to keep until paid off. 48 month loan halfway there. After that who knows. So a 4year old 5.0 with 20k miles should be a good private sell If I go that route.

ThunderkissGT14 01-31-2014 11:19 PM

dunno..bought it cash... first real high performance car... i hate that the new mustangs are supposedly better hp/tq and gas mileage... but they do look like ass so :/

the car i really want i'll never own :(

93/94 RX-7 with an LSX engine N/A or turbo'd too...

its best to be a real mechanic if you're gonna have a car like that :(

Ya this kind of makes me thing maybe I should just take one more step and get a Shelby then that be my car I hang on to for a long long time. If I do its going to be a 11-12 GT500.

five.slow 02-01-2014 03:53 PM
