When to Change Oil

Do you go by mileage or by the Oil Life Meter in the car? Mine is at 48% and I am used to changing at around 25-20% but this is a different car so not sure what is recommended. Thanks guys.

My oil life meter goes to 5,000 mi. There is a TSB that fixes this and extends it to the factory recommended 10,000 but I prefer to change it at 5k, so that's what I do.

It all depends on driving style, oil type, weight, ect.

3k regardless of type. You can get a full synthetic change with a good filter for under $40 from oreillys if you watch the sale ad. It's cheap insurance to know you always have fresh oil in there..

I do every 5k no matter what oil is used but I just use the motorcraft blend as I work for ford

It all depends on driving style, oil type ( syn, blend,), weight.

Does the OLM factor all of that when providing the percentage?

IT does the style and weight but if your using a full synthetic oil nd a brand other then Ford it doesnt.

Gotcha. I plan on using RP anyway which is full synthetic.

Anyone have any recommendations on filters?

Ford filters are actually really good. Wix if not. IMO

Yeah check their ads, usually like castrol or Mobil synthetic 5 qt jug and filter usually Bosch for like $32. My truck takes 6 Qts so it's usually around $40 for me. Should be able to stay under $50 for a 5.0 if you work it right. Not always the same brand oil but its always name brand synthetic.

No i mean every 3k miles. I could understand if the car sat for extended periods but for a daily 5k is fine hell 7500k would work as well.

03MachMe 07-29-2013 12:38 PM

With the Mach it sad every 3k with synthetic, this car has been every 5k with the synthetic blend at the dealer because I get free oil changes for the first 2 years. After that will be amsoil

Pennzoil ult and plat are hard to beat for the price. 3k was in the 70's and 80's oil tech has came along way since then.
