X-pipe or my custom exhaust...?

I am debating how to set up my exhaust when I get headers, and right now I have my resonators removed and single chamber exhaust. When I get headers I am toying with the idea of keeping the same exhaust since it's really free-flowing and getting high-flow cats to put on after the headers...

Would I see any benefit of getting an X-pipe over the current plans, and what sort of gains/losses come from catted X-pipes vs offroad?

offroad will net more power than a catted one.

How would I handle inspection though?

Headers are already in the works, I am just debating high-flow cats, or offroad. I had plenty of terrible luck with my prior cars and getting inspection done without cats, and if I am correct the car will show faults even when tuned correct?

Zeek 06-04-2013 02:13 AM

I have no cats and I have no CEL on the tuner removes other CEL

The tune will clear the code so you're fine there. Unless your car is excessively loud (which it may be) to warrant the inspector looking underneath they will probably just pass you. Best bet is going somewhere ghetto or going to someone you know who is an inspector. There are quite a few of us with no cats, I'm sure somebody can help you out with where you could go.

Ok last question and I think I will be set.

Current setup (factory shorty headers): Cats to 1 chamber exhaust. No resonators.

If I were to put the headers on and go without cats, but just attach the current exhaust setup, would there be any substantial difference between that and an OR-X?

Luke 06-04-2013 05:28 AM

Substantial as far as power? I don't think so. I would think it would be mostly just a difference in sound.

Zeek 06-04-2013 07:03 AM

It would sound about the same as a off road xpipe

slim87gt 06-04-2013 09:27 AM

The difference is minor between the 2. And even tho you can turn the cel off it will not pass inspection. Go with the high flow cats you wont regret it. The exhaust will be loud enough with the cats and maybe to loud without the cats with your current exhaust set up

That's what I was thinking, I snagged a video of my car without headers and the current setup going wide open...and it's already pretty damned loud :) Plus, I really have bad luck with inspection and trying to sneak through even with a hook-up :(

Anyone know where I can get the high-flow cats? American Muscle doesn't have em, Lethal only has their OR X-pipe....

Check with Austin and see if JBA has them.

Austin@ba-speed is his screen name, one of the vendors here.
