What soap to use.

Alright I just ran out of the stuff I had for years and they no longer make it. What would you guys recommend for a good soap.

re-rx7 08-26-2013 08:46 PM

Megauirs gold class is gd stuff.

A302 11-12-2013 09:58 PM

The Gold Class is what I use too.

Shiftybusiness 11-13-2013 10:21 AM

Yea Meguiars is good stuff. Also a good site to go for detailing info is Autopia.com. These people take auto detailing to a new level.

five.slow 11-13-2013 02:24 PM

gold class is about the best you are gonna get off the shelf. iv tried chemical brothers and i wasnt impressed. gold class and make sure you swap out your wash mitt often.

I don't like them for everything but I do like their soaps, quick detail sprays, and their top coat polishes.

Iv noticed some people get it bc they see it on the forums. They either don't know what they are talking about or don't want to go against the flow and just claim it's awesome. This is for any product. Like I said I tried chemical guys and for me it sucked. My ole man builds insane bad ass cars and he is the painter too. He uses dish soap lol. He has had $100k+ cars sell at Barrett Jackson and multiple cars in magazines. He believes if it doesn't look good with out wax there is an issue. I use wax so.., he hates my guts. J/k

Dish soap? Hopefully most of those cars will sit in garages most of their lives. Dish soap is a great way to get the car absolutely clean but it will strip any wax or sealant.

I personally have had great success with most of the Zaino products. I find them incredibly easy to use and they show great results. I have a lot of people ask me what I use on my paint, or that my paint looks great. There are millions of products out there though and I am not by any means saying Zaino is the be all end all, there are many of equally as great or better products out there.

Its all really about doing your own personal research and finding what you like best.

five.slow 11-17-2013 01:38 PM

Yea these cars sit in climate control 75% of the time. They will get wax here and there. I just think it's funny that he uses crap soap. He's been doing this stuff for over 35 years and knows what he is doing. You don't have to put 800 layers of wax on a car to make it shine and protect it.

merlinmol 11-17-2013 02:46 PM

I used Zaino when I had my Firehawk, to be honest I thought it was awesome. Being that my current 2 cars are white, there is no need to do so much to the car. Here are a couple pics of the Firehawk. I use Meguiar's now and it works just fine for me. We will see how it does once I get my porter cable in a week or so. My Camaro needs paint corretion badly.

Nah, I got it. I do paint correction for Whiteside Customs most the time. I just don't have my own porter cable and now I will. It helps having a garage too, haven't had one of those in a long time haha.

i had been using the meguiars gold class soap for 2 years and had thought it was awesome.. well just recently i bought this Meguiars yellow "ultimate wash and wax" http://www.meguiarsdirect.com/product/4823
and the results where phenominal. i couldnt believe it had soo much suds and smelled awesome and when i was done it had my car gleaming like a mirror and had the "just waxed look to it"
will definatly be using this for now on as it has the same stuff as thier best carnuaba waxes already liquified into the wash. So killing two birds with one stone was definatly awesome..

re-rx7 02-10-2014 10:11 AM

Best meguairs wash is also the cheapest. Comes in a pink bottle. Stuff is the best I've used.

Imo thats the worst.. Absolutely no suds at all and more work to get all the dirt off the vehicle.

Are we using the same cause Ive used the Ultimate and it wasnt up to snuff. Think bottle was def more sudsy plus i dont like the wax additive in the ultimate wax wash or whatever. Then again I always use Ultimate spray wax after every wash to extend protection between washes. This may be why the pink works so much better for me.

What? Too cheap for you? Ive tried about 15 different soaps, this works the best, gets car super clean, feela like it was just waxed, and you dont have to scrub real hard for the bugs and tar, road grime that collects on the bottom areas of the bumpers and side panels. Shit almost wipes right off.

Cheap? More like WAY too expensive. Technique, time of day and using soft water are more important than which soap to use. I've got some Meguairs stuff I got off the shelf at Wal-Mart and I guarantee you my car looks as good or better than yours does with the expensive stuff.

If anyone is washing their car in direct sunlight using hard water, it doesn't matter if your soap in $1000 bucks an ounce, it still won't look good.

Soft water, in the shade, washing panel by panel rinsing each panel as you go is the best way to do it.

I do all the shit you do, Im not a moron. Lol

As for comparing our cars, your car is brand new almost, if you had a car you had since new in the 80s you could compare to the porsche. It shines better than most newer cars that arent waxed every month. Last time it was waxed was 5 years ago i think.

First of all, anyone can see factory paint is horrible and needs to be buffed down and smoothed.

Secondly, you saw my 93 Cobra and it was cleaner than most. :)

Factory Ford paint, yes, it looks like it was put on with a mop. Factory paint on the C6s looked pretty f'in good. Porsche and BMW/MB even better.

Yeah and it smells so good I almost want to taste it. Have been wanting to give their Americana wax a try too but man it's pricey.

Guess I'll stop using Dawn and try some of this Gold Class stuff. Question though, why are you guys saying this stuff is pretty much the best off-the-shelf car soap over others?

As long as you use meguairs or mother or a name brand soap there really isnt a bad choice. They all work well. Plus the meguairs has a nice smell. Dont tell me you have been washing you car with dawn soap?...That will take every bit of wax that is on your car right off. If you have been you need to wax that car immediatly.

Yeah I have been. Honestly i don't think the car had wax on it when i boughtit. Paint looks just the same to me. The car needs a full detail so i was nnever bothered.

re-rx7 03-20-2014 09:23 PM

Put wax on it quickly. Your paint is taking a beating. Nothing to protect it from the elements. NEVER USE DISH SOAP. If it takes grease and wax off of pans and sucj imagine what it does to paint. A gd polish and wax would wonders.
