Garage Upgrade - Tire Rack

Scored some abandoned steel (thinwall 1-1/2" square tubing) a year or two ago and ended up doing a hanging tire rack. Its way overkill, but it only weighs 33.5 lbs and its crazy stiff and strong.

Proof tested as if it was the monkey bars. Tthe boy is 6-4 and >200#, but it also supports my fat gut on either end. Lag bolts are good for nearly 1300#. LOL.

First real project with the welder. Good learning experience/skillbuilding activity. Good thing I'm not paying myself by the hour.

I hope you have a U bolt going over a 2 x 6 or that thing will eventually come down.

I'll take the Pepsi challenge on that one. I ran the code calcs using conservative engagement length for the lag bolts and the combined RATED pullout load is in excess of 1300#.

I cheated and bought one from Garage Guys. Tire Loft model, weighs next to nothing, is adjustable for both length and width, set me back about $50 with shipping.

Looks like I am going to add this to my list of future garage mods. Especially if I am forced into a one car garage here in the short future.

If I had any wall space available, I would have something like that. Other than the pegboard over the workbench, I'm fully shelved out.

And if I could weld, I'd have something like you made. I can stick metal together, but it ain't pretty!
