Cheap powdercoat?

I purchased these wheels from dark pony about 3mo back. Great wheels as he hardly drive on them no complaints with dark pony. The past months I've started to notice something rather odd. Powder coating is starting to chip off. I know powrdecated parts are suppose to be kinda durable but these scratch easily, are not powder coated evenly as you can see and they chip if dust blows.

Dark pony says they have a warranty so we will see but just thought I would share. Caliber collision did them I believe or referenced someone.

Here are pics.

Caliber Collision outsourced them, I believe. Get Beau's contact info from Johnathan, and give him a call.

Im not upset or anything just really weird cause ive never seen powdercoat be less durable then car paint.

Bad prep on the wheels will make it do that.

Yeah they probably didn't clean them super well. Powder coating is all in the prep. Any dust or oils left on the rim will mess it up. Make it peel or flake over time.

Magic Touch in Lewisville outsources it, but they do great work. They do it right, and its about a hundo per wheel.

I think they are gonna try and make things right.

Update: spoke with Beau at the shop. Said to bring them by monday and it shouldn't be a problem to get them warrantied. So until Monday....

Got a few things that you are wanting powder coated or just the trips to drop them off and pick them up?

I have a few items on my list when the time comes. I.e Engine pieces. Ive been researching and since these wheels were orignally chrome, powdercoating is usually more difficult as you just cant sandblast it off most of the time. You have to have them acid dipped to remove chrome. Plus I have a new set of front tires so prolly be a good time to get them slapped on. In the pics above you can see through the coat to the metal beneath weirdest thing ive ever saw.

Not a bad Idea. Im gonna tell this guy to go satin black. Gloss is to much of a bitch. I spoke with a large powdercoating company up here about my wheels and said that since they are chrome they have to be bead sanded pretty hard to remove any chrome. As far as the see through the powdercoat part he said it sounded like the guy didnt prep them well if the original chrome is still underneath and didnt use alot of material.

Like I said before if they are fixed im happy. Im gonna go to Satin black though to save some headache.

Company I spoke with...
