Factory Brembos vs. Standard Brakes

I have the standard brakes on my car. What are the differences? Rotor size? Number of pistons? Larger calipers etc? Wanting to know if I can add them in the future and if they will fit along with the wheels I bought. I assume so since

Yes to all those - the Brembo GTs and Boss 302s have larger rotors, more pistons per caliper (4 instead of 2) and larger calipers/pads.

I would not assume, because fitment over the Brembo calipers can be tricky. There are a lot of wheel makers that offer wheels that fit fine for standard brakes but don't fit over Brembos.

Kevin (04sleeper here) did a nice writeup on his Brembo brake swap. He always details his installs so you'll get a good idea of what is needed and what to expect.

13.8" rotors on front with 4 piston calipers

standard are 12.8" with 2 piston

Interesting. When I was selecting wheels to by, none of the options took into account whether or not the car has the Brembo kit. Just read options for fitment as "GT/V6" or "GT500."

if they fit on a GT500 they will fit brembos. the 07-12 GT500 has the same brembos as the brembo GT/boss. 13 GT500 has 6piston brembos

Are the Brembos just the front set or do the rear brakes get upgrades as well?

I know the clearance on the factory Brembo's is TIGHT. like 2mm tight.

I installed 2012 gt500 brembo set up on my car I have a base model 5.0. Cost me $700 plus 200 for stainless steel brake line kit from steeda. Installed in 30 minutes super easy. Stop great. I have the sve drift 18" wheels no clearance issues

Must stop the 5.0 great since that brake kit is designed around a much heavier(especially front heavy) car.
