Lol it's a term, meaning "out of the box" or "pre loaded" etc...

Never heard that term before. That's why I was confused, thinking it didn't come preloaded.
I do know that SCT won't upload more preloaded tunes onto a tuner if they unlock it...which sucks.

I was informed by Gearheads, that if I decided to go E85, that they would be able to have two separate tunes uploaded to my SCT to switch back and forth to. 1 for E85 and the other for regular 93 octane...

Yeah. The X3 can store up to 3 custom tunes in its memory.

Nice! I should have a JLT CAI this week. I'm curious how much it'll really help.

You are 6spd right? Well my guess is that you will most likely be right about where mine is at.

After talking to Travis at Gearheads, his assessment of CAI's are that the gains aren't that big. He has Dyno tested them before and after and claimed that the gains typically are minimal...to the tone of ~5HP.

Well I wonder then how mine managed to put 20hp more down. I know all dyno's are different and conditions can have an effect, but 20hp seems significant.

That's the general concensus is that most of the gains come from the tune rather than the CAI itself. Every little bit helps though, right?

Every bit does help. Plus, you can't beat an intake that flows smoother and has a cone filter too ;-)

Actually the stock intake flows relatively smooth.

Indeed. I've heard great things about the stock intake. I put in a K&N drop in filter just for the fact ill never have to replace it. With that said, I believe that's why changing to an aftermarket CAI doesn't present significant gains.

Most CAI's on the market require a tune for the car to run properly (excluding the Airraid and C&L) which i think masks actual gains CAI's really make.
