Mobil 1 is a full Synthetic. The Motorcraft Oil the factory uses is a Synthetic blend.

Motorcraft does offer a full synthetic but I do not believe that is what the factory puts in these cars.

Mobil 1 is a Base 3 POA which is not a full synthetic oil. Anything at a POA 4-5 is a fully synthetic motor oil. Mobil is advertised as full synthetic due to its great ability to protect against wear. I read an article in DSport magazine that I still have at home, that did a HUGE detailed review on motor oil in general. I typed out the entire article over on Corvetteforum. I will copy it here in a new thread. Stay tuned

The term 'full synthetic' has become a misnomer since there is no universally accepted definition. It's now become a throw-around term for oil made with Group III, IV, or V base.

I use Mobil-1 5w20

Pennzoil Synthetic Blend 5w30 in our truck.

Both PER Ford specs.

Yep, multiple test have shown Pennzoil Ultra to basically be the top "of the shelf oil" you can buy. It beats Royal purple and Mobile 1 extended. Still can't hang with Amsoil, but its not on shelves.

Okay. Here's the results of the analysis I just had done on my oil. Blackstone recommended trying 9,000 miles next time and that's on Mototcraft syn blend. Fine by me.

I switched to Motorcraft 5W30 when I did this oil change. I may or may not do another UOA when I have it changed according to the oil life monitor. Since Don Davis Ford does a change with filter for $32, I can live with the findings.

My current oil change is going to be my last time running the Motorcraft Synth blend 5W-20. I plan to do a UOA and see how the car has done on this oil for 42k miles, then the Amsoil 5W-20 full synth goes in.
