Am I the only SN95 on the site? You know old school 5.0's, The motor that made the Mustang.

I believe the motor that made the Mustang was a 4.6 liter 289.

I owned over a dozen foxbodies including a very clean h/c/i vortech S-trim 93 Cobra. We still have a 03 Mach I as well in addition to my 12 GT.

Oh Really sir, Challenge excepted. lol

Ford put some 5.0L's in mustangs in 1967. They didn't call it a 5.0 and the Badge still said 289 but it was a 302 under the hood. In 68 Ford offered the 289 and 302, at the end of 68 though ford realized that it had hit gold with the 302 and dropped the 289 from the Mustang line up.

So the 289 lasted 3 years and the push rod 302 went 26 years in the Mustang basically unchanged. To me the Push rod 302 is the motor that made the Mustang.

Technically speaking, the 260 was the V8 available when they debuted in '64. And for reference, they first called it a 5.0 in my '78 King Cobra.
