Default 2011-13 DIY Speaker Install

Thought I would make a diy for the speaker install. I installed Pioneer 6x8s on my 13 with the shaker 500. On the 13 if you have the shaker 500 you will need the 11-12 speaker bracket. The part numbers are 4R3Z-18B947-AA AND 4R3Z-18B947-AB. They came out to 26 bucks at the dealer. Thanks Greg! Only need the brackets if you have a 2013 WITH the shaker system!

Tools
Interior trim remover tool
7mm
t30 torq wrench
6mm

1. Unclip and remove 7 7mm bolts. 2 on each side and 3 on the bottom

2. Remove the window switch and unbolt the 7mm bolt

3. Remove the mirror cover

4. Remove the panel on the grab handle and then remove the t30 bolt. Same step on the door handle too

5. Now you can remove the panel. Lift up and out. Once you get that off remove the 3 6mm bolts on the speaker. Unclip the harness and pull it out.

6. Place the new 11-12 bracket where the old speaker bracket was positioned. It will just snap in place.

7. Install the speaker harness on the factory clip.

8. Screw the speaker in place and reintsal all the pieces! Enjoy the new sound!!

II take it those tweeters must suck? You could always relocate them though if you wanted.

Good write up Nic. I need to get my panels off so I can sound deaden.

I am pretty dissapointed in the Shaker sound system in my 5.0. My last vehicle was a ram with the Alpine 509W 9 speaker upgrade and I thought it was great for a factory sound system.

Great write-up. I did this in my '11 which didn't have the shaker sysem so wasn't sure how the bracket looked on my '13. Did you look at the sub in the door? Wondering how puny it is.

It's an 8" sub. Most likely a shallow mount-like style.

Default 2011-13 DIY Speaker Install

Did this today but did 5 1/4 component (which is what is there on the 13) and it is a night and day difference. The sound is unreal from a simple mod, the factory speakers have the smallest magnets and voice coilsI have ever seen.... Great write up by the way.

4 ohm. All factory speakers are 4 ohm, as are most aftermarket.

This is the way to go, a nice component system cant be beat IMO. Back when I was in to stereo stuff I had 5x7/6x8's on all 4 corners in my Bronco ran off an amp, swapped the front to components and the difference was huge.

Good write up, what made you choose the Pioneer's and now that you've heard them would you choose anything different?
