Default When to Change Oil

Do you go by mileage or by the Oil Life Meter in the car? Mine is at 48% and I am used to changing at around 25-20% but this is a different car so not sure what is recommended. Thanks guys.

My oil life meter goes to 5,000 mi. There is a TSB that fixes this and extends it to the factory recommended 10,000 but I prefer to change it at 5k, so that's what I do.

It all depends on driving style, oil type, weight, ect.

3k regardless of type. You can get a full synthetic change with a good filter for under $40 from oreillys if you watch the sale ad. It's cheap insurance to know you always have fresh oil in there..

It all depends on driving style, oil type ( syn, blend,), weight.

Does the OLM factor all of that when providing the percentage?

Yeah check their ads, usually like castrol or Mobil synthetic 5 qt jug and filter usually Bosch for like $32. My truck takes 6 Qts so it's usually around $40 for me. Should be able to stay under $50 for a 5.0 if you work it right. Not always the same brand oil but its always name brand synthetic.

Gotta pay attention and shop for deals. It can be done.. $32 for the 5qt and filter then usually they have the single qt bottles on sale for 6-7 at the same time. Might go over a tick with tax but you will get close. There have been many times I go into our local oreillys and they have the valvoline vr-1 race oil for $2 a qt!!! I grab It up every time I see it!! Still a good deal for synthetic oil. Damn 8 qt mustangs... Haha

Gotcha. I plan on using RP anyway which is full synthetic.

Anyone have any recommendations on filters?
