That's a majority of it yes. I'm just saying, if you get hit by an 11 year old girl the same way as getting hit by 210lb professional fighter in the same situation, the power difference is going to determine some effects of recovery.

It's not even about the other guy, but rather pushing yourself to place out of your comfort zone and being forced to deal with it. I really enjoy training. The truth of who you really are is shown in the gym. Most people who start training usually quit because they find out quickly they aren't as brave or tough as they thought they were. Then you have the choice of humbling yourself to admit you aren't as tough as you thought and continue training, or quitting.

Only a few people truly have that warrior spirit, but most people don't.
Well said! I'd love to learn a martial art myself.

It's possible too. All kinds of things can happen when someone gets KO'd. Hit their head on something on the way down. (table, chair, a curb, eek!) I've also seen people screw up their backs and blow out a knee from falling straight down on them and going backwards/sideways.

The worst kind of punch to get hit by are the ones you don't see coming and the ones with full bodyweight behind it. That kid is lucky that guy kind of winged it from his elbow at an angle rather than driving straight through with his bodyweight.

A solid punch - at almost the moment of impact, the shoulder and elbow line up directly behind the fist (straight wrist, no bend) with the rear leg driving through.

It's not to say a big hook can't have power to it, but it's not as quick/efficient of a punch since 90% people don't know how to place their feet and pull their hips through to throw a proper punch. It's almost always thrown from the shoulder with a very bent wrist taking away power and not lining up on the targert properly. You're also risking a broken wrist and/or a boxers fracture in your hand punching that way.

Yeah, the guy landed somewhere between two book shelves, so I assume the edge or flat surface of one of them cushioned his head's landing.

Wow.. slow Grey is getting deep on us... side note. I'm in the Saginaw. Haslet area. Do you know of any good places out there? It's been 10 years since I last took any form of martial arts and wouldn't mind supplementing my gym time with some again

Haha. It's just something I'm very passionate about.

As for the Ft.Worth area, there is a few schools out there worth checking out. Alvarez BJJ and Travis Lutter's school. If possible, look for a Gracie affiliated school before anything else.
