Crimson's 2013 Boy Racer GT
I figured I would get on making one of these threads, bragging about what I have done to my car. One thing I have been proud of is that I have done most of the work myself (outside of the ProCharger, tuning, and welding). I originally bought a 2013 V6 Premium Track Package, which I put most of the power adders on but it was never enough power (sorry V6 guys). It is a great car, but now I know just to buy the biggest engine I can afford.
http://i71.photobucket.com/albums/i1...e/101_1222.jpg In February 2013, I traded the V6 in for this beast. 2013 Mustang GT Premium, MT82, 3.31 rear end, with Recaros. All I lost on the trade in was the taxes as I got a good deal on the purchase price and my trade in. Here she is as I bought her. http://i71.photobucket.com/albums/i1...psz8pooa2r.jpg The first thing I tackled were the immediate things we all want. A little more growl out of the exhaust and a couple exterior mods to make it our own. Started with Borla S-Type's and some new badges and vinyls. http://i71.photobucket.com/albums/i1...psc66dfff1.jpg http://i71.photobucket.com/albums/i1...psbf6cdec5.jpg http://i71.photobucket.com/albums/i1...ps980edb4a.jpg Then I signed up for my first every HPDE event with my car as stock as it could be. From there, I got hooked on Road Events and knew the direction I wanted to go with my car. Drag racing was not that much fun to me, doing car shows are too boring, and autocross was too short. http://i71.photobucket.com/albums/i1...ps9b5b976f.jpg After this event, I went straight to the suspension. I ripped out everything, shocks/struts, springs, panhard bar/brace, LCA, UCA/UCA bracket, and sway bars. In went, Steeda Pro-Actions, FRPP Springs, Fays2 Watts Link, SVE LCA's, BMR UCA & bracket, and Hotchkis sway bars. After spending a lot of time in the garage under my car, my suspension was near finished. Oh, also threw on a GT500 spoiler. https://scontent-a-dfw.xx.fbcdn.net/...96596360_n.jpg https://scontent-b-dfw.xx.fbcdn.net/...14773925_n.jpg https://scontent-b-dfw.xx.fbcdn.net/...95554804_n.jpg https://scontent-a-dfw.xx.fbcdn.net/...64175949_n.jpg The next set of modifications went a little more random. Some appearance, some performance, some just wasting some money and time. Went for some MRT Rear Window Louvers as I think they add a real muscle car vibe to the cars. Also had some custom badges to replace the GT Faux Gas Cap Cover from Billet Badges. Through on a Bama tune cause I got them for free then went to the Dyno. http://i71.photobucket.com/albums/i1...sxgu16oow.jpeg https://scontent-a-dfw.xx.fbcdn.net/...28942340_n.jpg https://scontent-b-dfw.xx.fbcdn.net/...22785793_n.jpg After this set of mods, I just started running as many HPDE events as I could, hitting up Motorsport Ranch in Cresson. Replaced my brake fluid to DOT4, added a JLT Brake Cooling Kit, front tow points, and put on some Hawk race pads. Just driving the piss out of it as much as I could. After this, I realized tires are expensive so I picked up an extra set of '05-'09 GT500 wheels that could clear my Brembos. I haven't wrapped them in new rubber, but I am looking at some 285/35/18's here in the near future. https://fbcdn-sphotos-f-a.akamaihd.n...36031322_n.jpg Then I decided go big or go home. Came across a deal on a ProCharger Stage II P1SC kit with installation and I couldn't let it go. Went into some premature debt, but being boosted has been the best modification I have ever done on any vehicle. https://scontent-b-dfw.xx.fbcdn.net/...52374323_n.jpg https://fbcdn-sphotos-d-a.akamaihd.n...33926178_n.jpg https://fbcdn-sphotos-f-a.akamaihd.n...37020271_n.jpg After that, there has been some small things. But mostly just enjoying her. Right now, I have her in the hands of Jeff Smith out with Central Texas Performance welding in my BMR LCA Relocation Brackets, Roush BAP, and doing a dyno tune to smooth out that safe tune I got from ProCharger. Should be getting her back tomorrow and can't wait to see what the new numbers are for my baby! http://i71.photobucket.com/albums/i1...ps7174c4cb.jpg http://i71.photobucket.com/albums/i1...ps3a90256a.jpg https://fbcdn-sphotos-b-a.akamaihd.n...92248042_n.jpg Car recently got a little attention from Steeda as I made it on their Facebook and Google+ pages. http://i71.photobucket.com/albums/i1...ps4bbae4d4.png And here is how she sits before I took her down to CTP. I am sure I missed a lot in the description of my car, but it will eventually come to me. Next will be the new rubber on those older GT500's wheels, along with installing a handheld fire extinguisher bracket as I am prepping to run the Texas Mile next March. Crossing my fingers that I am able to sign up before all the slots are taken up! http://i71.photobucket.com/albums/i1...ps8eb043d5.jpg |
This thing looks familiar! HaHa
Ill be back to work next week, looks like there will be two procharged mustangs in the unit |
Looking good. I wish I lived anywhere close to any real tracks. I will get out on one soon enough.

Got her back last night. Everything went smooth and I am very impressed with the driveability and power that was made.
Here is my baseline run. TQ numbers were off for some reason, but you can see the graph. http://i71.photobucket.com/albums/i1...pseb0ee3f0.jpg And here is where I ended. Jeff did some great work and I'm very pleased with the outcome. http://i71.photobucket.com/albums/i1...ps1418f278.jpg |
Flat torque curve. Nice
|
The torque is definitely nice, but the linear power is very smooth and great. This thing really flies now and is very predictable. ProChargers canned tune was very safe and the driveability of it on anything besides WOT was untolerable.
|
Everything is back up, operating as normal.
New additions to the car include some sponsor-esque stickers (added 50 HP right there) on the front quarter panels and a new coolant cap as mine seems to leak a little. Purchased a set of 285/35/18 Continental DW's for the upcoming race season to put on my used 2009 GT500 wheels. Excited to get those on as that is some signicant meat on each corner compared to the 255/40/19 Pirellis that I tore through in one year. Also needed a Y or higher rated tire for the TX Mile. Car won't be seeing much daily driving anymore though, unless it is to shows that are local. Picked up a new 18' trailer to take her to and from race events that way I always have a way of getting back home if something were to break again. Once everything is prepped and up, I will be sure to put some pictures on here describing the car and my first experience at the mile. |
Car is now ready to go. Put the new wheels on today & they are definately rough looking up close. However, they fit and the tires work great. Did a couple test runs at Little Rover today practicing easy launches for The Texas Mile and everything is running top notch. Tires are now worn a little where they are actually hooking up as much as a street tire can and the DSS Aluminum DS worked great with no unwarranted vibrations. Outside of our Mustangs (lack of) aerodynamics, I feel ready.
http://i71.photobucket.com/albums/i1...psnyfuswr8.jpg http://i71.photobucket.com/albums/i1...ps1et6kyvt.jpg Ended up purchasing an auto hauler also to trailer the Mustang to and from events that are further away then a couple hour drive. Makes it easier to bring my own tools, comfort items, and support if something were to go wrong. EZ-Up, chairs, coolers, Razor Scooter, generator, fuel cans, and everything else is organized and ready to put in the truck once I load up. Now it is a waiting game. http://i71.photobucket.com/albums/i1...psd2ea4a46.jpg http://i71.photobucket.com/albums/i1...ps1ecd4bb2.jpg |
Awesome. Good luck man. What are you hoping to hit? 180?
|
oOoOoooo nice trailer, I may need a tow here soon :-)

I'm assuming that you can tape up a bunch of grill opening and still not have a cooling issue for a single blast? Go fast, have fun, take pics, and don't break anything. |
How do ya like the new tires with that power? I'm about to get a set and thought about the PSS but it seems the conti DW are a better bang for the buck.
awesome setup btw! Kcco! |

I will have a more in depth review of these tires after this event as far as straight line traction. Come 17 May, I will have an even better review for their on track handling as I signed up to run Texas World Speedway again before I leave Texas this summer. Who knows, maybe the last time I ever get to run the track if they close it down. |
Are you going to use only tape to block off? I would try to use as much cardboard as possible. It will be stronger against the wind pressures. Make sure you leave the brake ducts open though, because you will need them for slowing down. lol
Also, if it were me, I would at least leave a little portion of the grill uncovered so you have a feed of fresh air coming into the intake box. |
I have some precut cardboard for the upper and lower grills, but I only plan on using one at a time if I decide to tape off. Realistically I am doing this just to have hard evidence I went fast. Depending on the adrenaline rush, I may start working hard on aero with the tape if I decode this is something I want to do more in the future.

Well this weekend was fun. The fun got cut short Sunday & I wasn't able to take advantage of the tailwind, cool morning weather, and my 93 race tune in efforts to hit my 170+ MPH goal. This was my prepped vehicle for that mornings run before the rain screwed us all.
http://i71.photobucket.com/albums/i1...ps98fadcc4.jpg Here were my final results from day one. No aero mods, just my daily tune and a heavy foot. These were all with easy launches, rolling off the line getting into the throttle after I was over 25 MPH. I made my qualification run at 153 cruising, then posted two runs before the day was done within 0.1 MPH of each other showing I was consistent through the mile. Here is my top run. http://i71.photobucket.com/albums/i1...psecc7d4cf.jpg Oh well, that's racing. Here are some of the photos I was able to take while I was out there. There was a ton of cool cars, but time was limited for me and most of the fast guys didn't attempt runs that could break or get close to the record. http://i71.photobucket.com/albums/i1...ps34d89159.jpg http://i71.photobucket.com/albums/i1...ps57b9b293.jpg http://i71.photobucket.com/albums/i1...ps894e3aad.jpg http://i71.photobucket.com/albums/i1...ps0f1ca9fd.jpg http://i71.photobucket.com/albums/i1...ps372b1c00.jpg |
Nice run! Sucks about the bipolar Texas weather though
Not sure if my dentist made it down to this one |
Awesome! Congrats man.
That Shelby though...weird... |

I may try an event like this again though, but depending on where I am at in the country will dictate where I do it. I want to try the Mojave Mile and Mile and a Half event they have out there in California. Quote:

Sucks about the weather, but glad the car ran well.

Your fuckin car is shweet! I love gold on red. Before the mustang I had a '99 red T/A with c5 bronze magnesium 17/18s and I absolutely loved them with red.

In other notes, Lethal Performance Inc. sported my photo on their Facebook page. That makes Steeda and Lethal Performance now! Getting exposure I guess is always good. If only they would give me a larger discount lol. http://i71.photobucket.com/albums/i1...psd821f84e.jpg |
Car parts starting to come in for the splitter install along with my faux gas cap badges after having to get redone. Hopefully all the parts in tomorrow and install this weekend if this wedding I'm in gets in the way lol.
For those not in the centex area, we had a hailstorm last Friday and my garage door was broken. Ended up with a little damage on the roof and rear decklid, couldn't really see on the hood but I'd imagine there is some there too. Hopefully insurance comes through and cuts me a nice check. I don't care about the dents, they aren't that noticeable. Maybe a Tiger Racing carbon fiber hood in the future. |
Started today (despite the shitty weather) on my splitter-for-cheap install. Loved the LS one, but can't seem spending all that money for a few pounds of downforce. Anyways, here is my part list.
Splitter: Stillen Splitter KB417214 Turnbuckles: Longarcre Spoiler Brace x2 LON23708 (replacing the Stillen ones as these are beefier) Longacre Backing Disk x2 LON23702 To Connect Turnbuckles to Car: 4" Mending Braces from Lowes x2 #8 Metal Screws x4 Additional Materials: 1"x1/4" washers for the screws holding the splitter to the car (parts bag doesn't come with any) Progress Made on 06 April: Today I had to figure out how to mount these turnbuckles on. The stock ones work well according to the Stillen reps, but I did not feel like drilling into my bumper in order to brace the splitter. I ended up drilling into my tow point brace versus into the bumper support like one member on SVTP did (who I stole most of this build from). Now that I got those in, fitted to the splitter after I mocked it up. Later this week, I plan on actually securing the splitter to the car. Just need some help from my roommate as it takes a little finagling with some 3M tape. Here is some pics of the progress so far. To me, this was the hardest part as you have to find a place on the car that would be strong enough to hold the force created by the downforce. http://i71.photobucket.com/albums/i1...ps8wvtsqtc.jpg http://i71.photobucket.com/albums/i1...psdzchvcbv.jpg |
Part two:
So the instructions are really vague. There are supposed to be holes that line up, but they really take some muscle to get them in. Simple as cleaning the stock lip, sticking on the new one, then screwing in the three points on each side along with installing the turnbuckles that I put in yesterday. Additionally, I used some of the leftover screws to drill into the old lip virtually fusing the two together with 5 more screws. Either way, this thing is pretty solid and would have no problem holding up to speed. http://i71.photobucket.com/albums/i1...psqr2fshs7.jpg http://i71.photobucket.com/albums/i1...pssxrxlxwf.jpg http://i71.photobucket.com/albums/i1...psyeulkbgm.jpg |
Love it, now I'm considering one...
I see why someone wasn't at work today lol. |
Quote:
Only thing I advise is finding a place to mount the turnbuckles. I had to drill into the tow point bracket that I have in the car, just because it was the only place it fit on my car. The stock ones aren't too bad actually & are definitely usable. Just need to be painted black so it matches a little better. |
|
That color of wheels with red looks really good
|
Muy bueno

Well, everything seems to be ready to go. Today the car was solid driving it around to work and town. I don't think controlling the temperature of everything (brakes, coolant, engine, tires, etc) will pose no problems. As temps are heating up, everything seems to be getting better, outside of engine temps running a couple high.
Today, I focused on getting all the support stuff ready. Extra fluids loaded, extra brake pads, tools, trailer prepped, truck prepped, etc. Race season is surely a busy one. Ended up making new ramps to help out the trailer and ride height of my car. The 5 foot ramps off the trailer with the dovetail doesn't seem to be enough to prevent my splitter from scrapping. Ended up using one 2x12x10 boards, cut at lengths of 4', 3', 2', & 1' in which the trailer ramps will sit on top of. Also will allow me to drive my car on ramps at the track instead of always using my jack. http://i71.photobucket.com/albums/i1...psmxfr5vh3.jpg Almost forgot how my truck looks when it is clean. Added a little ProCharger bling to the trailer also. If I'd only bought the 5.7L Tundra I would also have an Eaton SC from the factory on that thing too! http://i71.photobucket.com/albums/i1...psvhej4sh4.jpg |
Outside of the overheating issue, car ran great once I was able to control the temperatures by watching throttle and improved airflow. Here are some of my favorite pictures from the weekend.
