Inquiry - DFW50's Summer Country Cruise

Ok, I need some input from as many of you as possible please. Summer is quickly approaching and with it the crazy intense Texas heat that comes along with it.

We'd like to get as many members as possible involved with this event. It's a country backroads cruise that goes between McKinney and Sherman. Tons of twisty turns, great scenery and a few photo op locations along the way as well.

Basically we would start out in Mckinney at a designated time. Have a drivers meeting then head out. There is a couple of stops along the way for breaks, pictures and gas. The route ends in Sherman right at 75 where we can go have lunch. After lunch, you can either head out from there down 75 or do the whole route again in the opposite direction!

What we need to know is - what is the best date for everyone to be there for the best possible turnout? We need to do this soon before it gets too hot. We can do a Saturday or Sunday, I know a few of you work on Saturdays so if it needs to be a Sunday that is fine too (It will be okay for you church goers to miss one Sunday, HE will forgive you :) lol )

The 18th is NOT an option due to the dyno day but any other date works.

Post up! :banana-mario:

Either day..

Phuck Phace 05-09-2013 12:24 PM

Is there E85 along this route?

You should ask Kevin about some E85 apps for your phone to locate stations with E85. If you fill up beforehand you would be fine all the way to Sherman, would just need to find a E85 station there.

I just did a quick Google search and there shows to be an E85 station at the Kroger right off of 75. :boobs:

June 8th is the next weekend day I have off so unless it's that day I'm out unless we do it early

You know I'm game. Just a FYI, the old courthouse in McKinney is being demolished so they have the entire lot fenced off. If you make plans to meet out there keep in mind parking will have to be done on the side street. Leaving between 9-10 I have come to realize is really an optimal time. At least doing this route the past few years that has been the case. Hardly any traffic on the road.

Also there is a bit of construction right before the road you turn on to go on the 2nd portion of the route. Believe its farm road 11. If anyone is lowered they are going to want to take the bump at a very nice angle.

I figured we'd just meet at TS since everyone knows where that is.

Here's a promotional video I put together a few years ago when we did this route for DFW charity racing. It will at least give you a look at what to expect on this route.

So meet at TrueStreet, then head out on the cruise.

You mentioned lunch, any idea what is around there (with a large enough lot for the cars)?

STROKD 05-09-2013 05:50 PM

I'm in any day.

Honestly there's no where to eat where the cruise ends. More than likely would have to make it back to McKinney for food. Big Tonys(off 380) always welcomes car enthusiasts. The owner Larry and his son Tony have been car fanatics as long as I've known them. Back in the 90's/00's I ran around with Tony doing car shit.

Big Tony's the pizza place? :p

blownaltered 05-09-2013 07:38 PM

I'll look at my calendar to see what I have. I don't want to miss this. I know Sundays are better for me since the oldest boy has baseball every Saturday for next month

When is this event taking place?

Jucostud 05-10-2013 11:44 PM

There is an e85 station right at 75 and 82 on the SW corner. Lots of places to eat up there too.

STROKD 05-11-2013 12:08 AM

I hope it's in June sometime so I can bring the vert. Donnie and I will be rocking Vanilla Ice mobiles.:Big Laugh:

juiced86stang 05-11-2013 11:39 AM

I'm down. Just let me know when.

Mrjeremyt 06-25-2013 04:04 PM

I know it's been a while since anyone posted to this but I would love to go an a backroad cruise. Hope this thing gets planned out and I can go. Sunday would definitely work better for me, but I would probably take off just to go. lol

We will be doing it, but probably after it cools down abit at the end of the summer. I'd hate for the heat to damage anyone's cars. Besides, the intense heat usually tends to hurt attendance at meets because no one wants to be melting away while trying to have fun. haha.

DirtyD 06-25-2013 04:47 PM

October cruise.

Selcouth 06-25-2013 04:55 PM

I'll be doing this cruise with some friends on July 7th which is a Sunday. I'll be in my GTO, buddy will be in his 05GT, another buddy in his Speed 3, another in his Speed 6, and possibly one more in his Del Slow. Anyone is welcome to join us. Pm me if interested for meet spot and time.

Rebelracer568 06-25-2013 05:36 PM

Ill be down to do a cruise

STROKD 06-25-2013 08:00 PM

Please NOT in November. I was chosen to go to a charity and I will be spending weeks cleaning the car. Oct is a great time, as is maybe mid to end of Sept.

Oxford14Stang 06-25-2013 08:02 PM

Yeah I'm down. A Sunday would be best for me, or I can call in sick Saturday lol
