VMP TVS install

I took the pics in the order of how the parts where installed, but didn't make comments on each pic as they're pretty self explanatory. Here's the link if you're interested.

Turned out good!

Justin doing the tune as well?

Rydawg1 11-04-2013 01:13 PM

Yes, you have to do some data logging on the initial baseline tune he sends you, then he'll make adjustments to it based on those results. So far I've been very happy with it.

Grandpa 11-04-2013 02:17 PM

Nice. Pretty easy install since it has the plug n play harnesses? (other than the grinding obviously)

maxpayne 11-04-2013 02:30 PM

Wow - Looks great! And, I am sure it will perform even better.

Quick question - based on the research you have completed, is the TVS SC the easiest to install and the best plug/play supercharged out there?

Rydawg1 11-04-2013 02:32 PM

Yes, I would recommend buying the wiring harness for sure! It's simple plug and play with the exception of one wire. You have to take a wire out of one of the ECU wiring harnesses and solder on a another wire (piggy back). I almost bent the pin trying to get it out of the harness. Then I got a razor blade and sliced a section of the wire jacket off, leaving the pin inside the harness, then soldered the wire on. Other than that and the grinding it was a pretty straight forward install.

Rydawg1 11-04-2013 02:33 PM

@maxpayne No I think the easiest to install would be the Procharger (centrifugal) I don't think you have to do anything to it. Bolts right on. But I wanted the TVS solution. I was torn between the VMP TVS and a Kenne Bell 2.8lc mammoth. It was the custom tuning that's included that swung me. With the KB I think they give you a baseline tune only.

Good to hear. Please post up some videos once you get her tuned up.

Which pulley did you go with? Did you do the upgraded fans too?

Rydawg1 11-04-2013 02:38 PM

Yes I went with the stage 2 kit w/dual fan heat exchange and an 82mm pulley.

That is the same set up I'm interested in. Keep us updated with your driving impressions once it's tuned. :)

Rydawg1 11-04-2013 02:57 PM

It's tuned. I sent off my data logs on Wednesday of last week. Installed the revised tune. He asked for another set of WOT pulls to be data logged and I asked him to put me in the "middle of the road" on my tune. I didn't want to be too aggressive, moderate is probably the best word. I'm at 13° advanced timing on 93 octane. So far I love it, took out and cruised around most of the weekend. It behaves no different than stock cruising around town, but when you floor it, that's a different story.

Awesome. Congrats. Hope you make it to a meet, I'd like to check it out. :)

JDBishopArts 11-04-2013 03:48 PM

Depending on what your A/F is 13° is way way way conservative. I was at 15° and made 535 with a 11.4 A/F. We bumped it to 16.5° and it's still in the conservative range.

Rydawg1 11-04-2013 04:34 PM

What pulley size are you running? I was going to try and attach my .csv but it exceeds the size limit.

JDBishopArts 11-04-2013 04:47 PM

82mm

Rydawg1 11-04-2013 06:21 PM

I'm not the tuning expert, I gave Justin @ VMP all the data he needs, I figure he knows what he's doing. IMO the car runs great and I'm happy. It's my daily driver on a stock internals etc. So it has more than enough power for me right now and I have 0 issues in being the slowest FI 5.0 on here ;)

JDBishopArts 11-04-2013 06:37 PM

I'm sure he does too. I wasn't knocking it at all. I was saying you're in really good shape unless he really messes up the A/F. This is the 93 tune right?

Rydawg1 11-04-2013 06:49 PM

Oh I know lol I was j/k. Yea I told him I was using shell 93 premium.

JDBishopArts 11-04-2013 07:09 PM

Dear lord. lol Stay away from Shell gas.

You need to make a gas analysis thread

JDBishopArts 11-04-2013 09:13 PM

All the info I've got is mainly from tuners. I don't really have factual info about why some gas is better than others. All I know is that Shell gas overall seems to cause knock retard on tuned/performance vehicles. Had it happen to me once personally. Never got it since.

Everyone seems to think Exxon/QT/BP is the gas to use on a tuned car.

Rydawg1 11-04-2013 09:29 PM

LOL I initially had a tank of Exxon 93 on the first tune revision and he told me he thought I had bad gas because of the Knock sensor readings. Asked me to fill up with a different "name brand" gas, so I filled up with Shell 93 and he said that it was better. Go figure...

PLASMAN 11-04-2013 10:05 PM

Ha ha damn gas lol!

A302 11-04-2013 11:17 PM

I used Qt gas on my first data log I sent to Justin. It had some knock. When I switched to Chevron it was way better. I've also had good luck with shell too. All were 93 octane. I think I'm at 15 degrees of timing with no problems.

Justin@VMP 11-14-2013 12:09 PM

Glad you liked everything.

After having dynoed, datalogged, and open tracked a bunch of 5.0s I'm not crazy about high timing on these engines on pump gas. I generally give the KS about +/- 3* leway, on most cars it will start out with 12-14 and add some timing, but on some it runs in the middle.

You can often get away with an extra couple degrees on the dyno and show 20-30rwhp more.

The good thing is once you get into that timing range they can take a ton of abuse, I've opened tracked my TVS Boss on 91 oct with 230F coolant temps and 150F intake temps and it's been happy with 13-14* with an 82mm pulley/10psi. I've found the same with Jeff Lacina's VMP TVSed GT that he open tracks, and he driver harder than me.

I find a little torco goes a long way and lets us get into the 18-20* range very safely.

A302 11-14-2013 12:23 PM

Do you have a release date on your 8 rib set up?

merlinmol 11-14-2013 04:31 PM

I use QT, sounds to me like I should have Brent or Kevin do some data logging and tell me how my tune looks haha.

Dan12GT 11-14-2013 05:13 PM

Bad ass! Someday...

I believe its already available cause Eric Wood was looking at it 2 weeks ago when we were having belt problems on his car

I'll give VMP a call.

Rydawg1 11-23-2013 08:47 PM

Since installing the VMP TVS kit, this is the first time being on the dyno. I made 2 pulls and this is the 1st pull. It made 583rwhp & 524rwtq on 93 pump gas (QT). I noticed at ~3,500 RPM's the torque curve dips just a tad.

http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w...a886ec-1-1.jpg

I was able to data log the dyno pulls. This screenshot shows the reason for the dip. At ~3,500 RPM the Knock Sensor spiked to 2.61. I only highlighted Knock Sensor, RPM, SA and SA v2 for the graph. The other information is in there but you'll need to click the pic, then "+" to view and read all of the other numbers.

http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w...e9090911-1.jpg

I was guessing it would make around 550rwhp. So needless to say I was pleasantly surprised with these numbers. I'm very happy with VMP, their 5.0 TVS solution and would definitely recommend it! :driver:

PLASMAN 11-24-2013 01:32 AM

Congrats Ryan

Hello I am looking at adding the VMP Stg2 w 82 pulley as well. I was wondering how does your car hook up with those tires? I have an auto w 3.55's in it and I am planning on putting 275 40 19's on the rear will it just smoke when you nail it? I did already add the FORD RACING BOSSS LCA's. It is a daily driver so I want to make sure I add the correct kit.
Thanks

Very nice. I am torn between this in 3 stage. Or the vortech r brenspeed
