Hood vents would be the best solution. The 13+ cars are good examples as it would allow the heat to simply flow out of the engine bay so your plastic parts and wiring are heatsoaking.

They aren't that functional. The one on my Evo sure as hell was though.

Trim away the hood carpet underneath them and they become a lot more functional. I can literally see the heat waves coming from the hood when I'm sitting at a light after driving for awhile.
